11th International Conference – Spring 2022

Advanced Applications in Chronic Neurological Disorders

Neurological Autoimmunity

Focus on the more common conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis but also approach the topic so that there is information relevant to any neurological autoimmune process. Diet, Lifestyle and natural interventions will be primarily discussed as will the common uses of drug therapies in neurological autoimmunity. Attention to underlying conditions and comorbidities (infectious, toxic, etc.) will also be a focus.

Addiction

Addiction uses up resources, affects families, and quality of life for many people the world over. Our focus in this area will be on the “top three” areas of medical addiction, Opiates, Alcohol and Benzodiazepines. In addition to standard medical therapies, we will look at integrative support means for addiction medicine to improve patient experiences and treatment outcomes.

Trauma

Brain trauma whether TBI, mTBI or other type is becoming more widely recognized in medical diagnostics and more understood as a pathological entity. Early therapy is obviously best, but we also see many people with late effects of brain trauma that need help. Our focus will be to update the practitioner regarding early diagnosis and intervention where that is appropriate as well as the management of the long-term trauma patient.

Neurotransmitter Balance

As a synergistic intervention to all neurological cases, we will take a specific dive into the use of natural substances and medications to alter and balance neurotransmitters. The way that neurotransmitters are naturally formed and controlled will be related to natural therapies and, where known, appropriate pharmaceuticals and how they intervene in these processes will be discussed.

The Value Proposition

Dr. Paul Anderson, N.M.D.

Dr. Paul Anderson is a recognized educator and clinician in integrative and naturopathic medicine with a focus on complex infectious, chronic, and oncologic illness. In addition to three decades clinical experience, he also was head of the interventional arm of a US-NIH funded human research trial using IV and integrative therapies in cancer patients. He founded Advanced Medical Therapies in Seattle, Washington, a clinic focusing on cancer and chronic diseases and now focuses his time in collaboration with clinics and hospitals in the US and other countries.

Former positions include multiple medical school posts, Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Medicine at Bastyr University and Chief of IV Services for Bastyr Oncology Research Center. He is co-author of the Hay House book “Outside the Box Cancer Therapies” with Dr. Mark Stengler as well as a co-author with Jack Canfield in the anthology “Success Breakthroughs” and the Lioncrest Publishing book “Cancer… The Journey from Diagnosis to Empowerment.”.

He is a frequent CME speaker and writer and has extended his educational outreach creating an online CE website “ConsultDrA.com” and Advanced Applications in Medical Practice (AAMP) conferences. AAMP is dedicated to bringing next level learning to healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills in a CME approved format.

Aaron Van Gaver, N.D.

Dr. Aaron Van Gaver has been practicing as a naturopathic physician for 17 years and an addiction counsellor for the past 8 years. Through his own personal journey in overcoming addiction, he was motivated to help others who struggle with this disease and to educate and empower other naturopathic doctors to help our patients – many of whom grapple with addiction every day. Learning the tools and skills that are needed to create a safe and healing space for patients has been the cornerstone of Dr. Aaron’s naturopathic practice. By talking about addiction, he endeavors to eliminate the stigma that exists surrounding addiction and mental health, so that so many of our patients (and those of us doctors that share in this struggle), feel comfortable to reach out and ask for help.

Mark Heisig, N.D.

Dr. Mark Heisig is a naturopathic doctor (ND) in Scottsdale, AZ. He completed his medical education at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. This training has made him eligible for fellowship recognition (FACFN) upon examination. Additionally, he has completed ongoing continuing education with Complete Concussion Management (CCMI).

The integration of naturopathic and functional medicine with a dynamic means for evaluating the nervous system gives Dr. Heisig a unique approach to interacting with patients and helping them overcome their health concerns. Dr. Mark strives to be a leader in integrative concussion recovery and performance.
