13th International Conference – Spring 2023

MITOCHONDRIAL MEDICINE: HEALING IN CHRONIC & POST-INFECTIOUS ILLNESS (LONG COVID & MORE)!

Chronically ill patients are nothing new. Long COVID is generating a new level of awareness that the standard medical system is ill prepared to deal with chronically ill patients. We all realize that an integrative and naturopathic approach best serves this patient population.

One crossover in chronic illness are the implications around mitochondrial health. This area of medicine has long been relegated to either diagnosing a severe genetic mitochondrial disease or a lot of guess work.

This CME event will focus on the latest methods of assessing, treating and incorporating mitochondrial (and cell) healing into chronic illness care. While this may not be a totally new concept AAMP are bringing speakers with expertise in areas to take our “healing the cell          from the inside out” practice to the next level.

Mitochondrial Function, Assessment, and Healing

In this morning session clinical and scientific experts on mitochondrial function and disorders will update the attendees understanding of this core area of cellular health and disease. The focus of this information will be to bring clinicians up to date regarding the way mitochondria work, the many ways they are damaged, and how that can affect whole-body health and disease in post-infectious and chronic illness.

Genomic and Toxic Influences on Cell Health and Healing

Advancements have been made in the testing, assessment, and clinical implications relative to mitochondrial disorders. The focus of this session will be specifically genomic (and nutrigenomic) influences, epigenetic changes, and the influence of toxicity on mitochondrial health. This will be related to strategies to heal the mitochondria and cells in patients with post-infections illness and chronic illness.

Modalities in Cellular and Post-Infectious Healing

While time can “heal all wounds”, often in the post-infectious and chronically ill patient much more is needed. In this session practicing clinicians will share integrative medical modalities they use in the difficult task of healing the post-infectious and chronically ill patient.

DNA Repair and Post-Infectious / Chronic Healing

In addition to mitochondrial science advancements the clinical implications of DNA damage via DNA adducts have had a great deal of advancement. It is not possible to test and assess DNA adducts and their effect on cellular and whole-body health. These issues are incredibly common in both eh post-infectious and chronically ill patient population.

Integrative Therapies in Post-Infectious Illness

The question of “what can I do clinically for my non-healing post-infectious and chronically ill patients?” is the primary concern of every clinician. Using the prior days information, expert clinicians will share strategies they are using in patients who are slow to heal with post-infectious and chronic illness.

Post-Infectious Illness – Healing from the Inside Out

Following the pattern of the morning session, the afternoon will discuss clinical strategies for the unhealing post-infectious and chronically ill patients. Clinical examples, modality integration, and troubleshooting strategies will be described.

Paul Anderson, N.M.D.

Dr. Anderson is a recognized educator and clinician in integrative and naturopathic medicine with a focus on complex infectious, chronic, and oncologic illness. In addition to three decades clinical experience, he also was head of the interventional arm of a US-NIH funded human research trial using IV and integrative therapies in cancer patients. He founded Advanced Medical Therapies in Seattle, Washington, a clinic focusing on cancer and chronic diseases and now focuses his time in collaboration with clinics and hospitals in the US and other countries.

Former positions include multiple medical school posts, Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Medicine at Bastyr University and Chief of IV Services for Bastyr Oncology Research Center. He is co-author of the Hay House book “Outside the Box Cancer Therapies” with Dr. Mark Stengler as well as a co-author with Jack Canfield in the anthology “Success Breakthroughs” and the Lioncrest Publishing book “Cancer… The Journey from Diagnosis to Empowerment.”.

He is a frequent CME speaker and writer and has extended his educational outreach creating an online CE website “ConsultDrA.com” and Advanced Applications in Medical Practice (AAMP) conferences. AAMP is dedicated to bringing next level learning to healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills in a CME approved format.

Lindsay Adrian, N.D.

Dr. Lindsay Adrian has an undergraduate degree in chemistry and graduated from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic medicine. After graduation she completed a 1-year general residency followed by many additional years of training in integrative cancer care.  She is an active member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, as a member of both the Conference Content Committee and the specialization committee for the association. Dr. Adrian is also a Fellow to the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO) as well as a member of the BC Naturopathic Association and the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC. In addition, she works with the Examination Committee, which is responsible for conducting board exams for naturopathic physicians wanting to practice in BC.

Dr. Adrian believes in lifelong learning and strives to stay current with research and treatment options available- using both natural and conventional treatments.  She is often heard saying, “we want to use all of the most appropriate treatments available!” and frequently attends conferences and seminars all over the world in this pursuit.  This commitment to learning extends to teaching as well.  Dr. Adrian is a guest lecturer at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine and commonly hosts student preceptors.

Frank Antonawich, Ph.D.

Dr. Antonawich completed his undergraduate training at the University of Rochester, earned a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from New York University and completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Neurology at Stony Brook University.  After working for a decade as a Research Assistant Professor in Neurology at Stony Brook University Medical Center, he is currently a Professor of Biology at St. Joseph’s University in New York, and the former Chairman of the Biology Department.

His research focuses on mitochondria and metabolic dysfunction. This mechanistic research approach has been utilized to study apoptosis associated with various neurological conditions/diseases, ischemia/stroke, aging, radiation damage, and neoplastic anaplasia. His projects have examined the effects of oxidative stress, anti-oxidants, and providing mitochondrial cellular support to potentiate clinical outcomes. His collaborative work, with redox molecules, has led to the development of 8 IND studies, as well as a recent, collaborative, publication examining the benefits of a novel organometallic complex against the vascular remodeling, pulmonary fibrosis and anti-inflammatory effects in lungs exposed to Iraqi burn pit dust.

Chris A. Kleronomos, FNP, DAOM, M.Sc.

He also specializes in functional optimization, anti-aging, nutrigenomics, and biohacking.  Practicing a comprehensive approach, he utilizes a variety of modalities to layer treatments incorporating the most current biomedical standards of care, with evidenced based Oriental and Natural Medicine through a Functional Medicine lens.

Werner Vosloo, N.D.

Dr. Werner Vosloo is a Naturopathic and Homeopathic Physician who focuses on and has a passion for helping people with chronic conditions heal through the use of natural and integrated medicine. In 2010 he started Restorative Health Clinic in Portland, Oregon, which has become a place of healing and hope for patients with multi-symptom chronic conditions.

Wanting to improve treatment outcomes and decrease treatment time, Dr. Vosloo opened Restore BioClinic in St George, Utah in 2018. In this dry, warm, and sunny climate, Dr. Vosloo created an environment where optimal healing can occur.  He created this clinic to dig into the deepest part of the human body, the cell. By identifying and removing contaminants within the cell, then healing the cell membrane that encompasses each cell, this treatment provides the deepest level of rejuvenation and healing.
